MLNC offers a variety of training and continuing education opportunities. MLNC updates its workshop schedule
three times a year - spring, summer, and fall. Please read the information below
concerning payment and cancellations carefully.
Registration
Using the workshop links on the side of this page, choose a class. A link to the
appropriate online registration form is provided with each workshop description. Contact the workshop's trainer if you have questions about the content or want to see if a workshop is full. We MUST receive a registration form before you are officially signed up. Registration deadlines are two weeks before the workshop date.
Confirmation
We will e-mail you a confirmation letter and travel instructions approximately ten
business days before the workshop
date. If you have not received this confirmation five days before the workshop, call the MLNC
office to make sure that you are registered.
Payment procedure
-
Invoice Library - The invoice will be sent to the OCLC billing contact for OCLC workshops or to the
library director for other workshops. If you want the invoice directed to someone else at your institution,
indicate the correct billing name and address on the registration form.
-
Invoice Registrant - Please provide the address where you would like to
receive the invoice, whether it is at work or at home.
-
Prepay Accounts - Before selecting this option, please contact the
person at your institution who processes your OCLC invoices. Verify with
them that your institution has an active prepay account established with
MLNC and that you are authorized to charge this workshop to that prepay
account.
-
Credit Cards - Please do not register online if you intend to pay
with a credit card. Instead, please use the
fax
registration form, and be sure to fill in the credit card account number, expiration
date, and cardholder's signature.
Cancellations
Please call us as early as possible if you are not able to attend a
workshop for which you are registered. In cases where enrollment is limited, early notification
allows us to extend space to another member. There is no penalty for
cancellation of registration 24 hours or more prior to a workshop.
Cancellation with less than 24 hours notice, or failure to attend a
workshop, will result in a charge of the full workshop fee.
If illness
or emergency prevents you from attending a workshop, please ask someone
from your library to notify the MLNC office or to attend the workshop
in your place.
MLNC may cancel workshops due to lack of registrants. The decision to cancel may be made as early as two weeks prior to the session. In the event of inclement weather, the decision to cancel a workshop will be made, when feasible, by noon on the day prior to the session and all registrants will be notified. Cancellations due to last minute weather emergencies will be posted on MLNC's voice mail system by 7:00 a.m. on the day of the session. Staff will also make an effort to contact registrants at home. If in doubt, please call 800-969-6562.
Schedule Changes
MLNC's workshop schedule may change from time to time and all changes
will be reflected in our online schedule. In addition, changes may be
published in our online newsletter,
QuickFlash,
in announcements on MLNCANNOUNCEMENTS-L (MLNC's electronic mail list),
or on our News page.
On-Site Training at Your Institution
Most of the workshops in our catalog can be offered at your library just for your staff. This option
allows more staff from your institution to be trained and may fit more easily into your staff scheduling.
Prices and class-size limits vary. If you are interested in an institution site workshop, contact Deb Ehrstein at 800-969-6562,
ext. 816.
Online Training via
Centra
Centra is a Web-based, e-Conferencing service that allows
people to meet and interact on the Internet through a website. By
offering workshops via Centra, MLNC’s trainers can share software
applications, documents, Web sites and PowerPoint presentations with
participants. Our subscription through Amigos Library Services helps MLNC to:
- Reach participants that may not be able to travel
- Hold classes for a smaller audience
- Offer training on topics not suitable for an in-person class
- Teach individuals at their desktop computer or groups gathered
in a library computer lab
To attend a Centra workshop with MLNC, participants need:
- A Windows computer, Internet access, a microphone, and
speakers
- To run the
Centra System Check at least two days before the workshop to
ensure their computer is ready
When you register for an online workshop with MLNC will send your
Centra username and password to you via e-mail. Your logon will be
good for any future online workshops with MLNC. A few days before
the class we will send detailed instructions for logging in to the
workshop on its scheduled day along with handouts or supporting
materials. Our regular payment and
cancellation policies apply to online classes
as well.
