Map Cataloging: The Basics



Lost when it comes to cataloging maps? This introductory workshop will
help get you started in cataloging maps and can serve as a starting
point for cataloging other cartographic materials. Take your basic
knowledge of cataloging and learn where maps and other cartographic
materials differ.
The skills to be taught include title selection, how to measure a map
correctly, scale calculation, how to record other mathematical data
correctly, and the notes required specifically for cartographic
materials.
Emphasis will be on sheet maps with some discussion of atlases.

Audience:
This workshop is intended for cataloging staff members who have
some original cataloging experience. Basic knowledge of AACR2, revised
and MARC bibliographic format is required. Instructor:
