Image Capture, Quality Control & Digital Infrastructure



This full-day workshop covers basic-level information on scanning, image capture and quality control activities for digital projects. Provides planning, process development, and implementation for image capture and digital object creation in a project setting. Discusses the creation of the appropriate digital infrastructure – equipment options, in-house digitization vs. outsourcing, how long-range plans affect equipment choices, and an examination of high-level workflow issues and their impact for infrastructure planning. Places emphasis on digital preservation activities for libraries, museums, and heritage organizations. Provides planning and policy steps toward developing and managing scanning activities for digital collections.

You will learn the ability to make informed digital capture and infrastructure decisions including:

  • Understanding of scanning basics
  • Understanding of image quality issues, file formats, compression and managing color
  • Ability to evaluate the appropriateness of various scanning devices for digitization projects
  • Understanding how project size and scope affect infrastructure options and choices
  • Ability to participate in the development of institutional policies for digitization projects

This session is offered at no charge and is funded through the Missouri State Library as part of the Missouri Digitization Planning Project. You must register to attend. Preference will be given to Missouri institutions. In the event of over-registration, MLNC reserves the right to limit the number of attendees from a given institution.
