Non-Supplier Status

As a supplier, your library's OCLC symbol appears in upper-case in the OCLC
WorldCat Resource Sharing service.
When other libraries locate an item in OCLC that you own, they may
create an ILL request and use your symbol in their lender string. As a non-supplier, your library's OCLC symbol appears in lower-case and other libraries may
not use your symbol to request materials from you. Non-supplier
status is convenient when:
- Your ILL staff is on vacation and no one else knows how to process
ILL requests.
- Your library is on break between academic semesters, and is closed
or not operating with a full staff.
If you need to switch to non-supplier status for a temporary time, keep several things in mind:
- If your staff will be unavailable to do ILL for at least a week,
non-supplier status is a good option.
- If your staff will be unavailable for only a day or two, then
non-supplier status is not an efficient solution.
- The change to non-supplier status can now be made beginning/ending
any day of the week. Allow at least a couple of days
for processing by MLNC and OCLC.
- Non-supplier status only affects new requests, not those already
in the queue, so you may want to start being a non-supplier before
the actual date your ILL staff will not be available. This
will give you time to clear out any requests that are still in
process.
You can change your supplier status in the
ILL Policies Directory with
the following steps. Just remember, the changes are not automatic
and OCLC staff intervention is needed to update your information in the
system.
- Log in with your ILL authorization and password.
- Click on "My Units" in the upper right-hand corner. You
will then see your library name, and a gray button that says "Change
Supplier Status".
- Click on that button, and you will go to a page with the option
to make yourself a temporary supplier or non-supplier.
- Click the radio button for "Non-Supplier" and enter the date
range that you need.
- Click on the "Save" button to send you request to OCLC.
