Interlibrary Loan Groups and
Agreements

The following resource sharing groups are commonly used
by Missouri libraries in their interlibrary loan procedures. If you
subscribe to OCLC’s WorldCat Resource Sharing service, you can also use
MIGI, LVIS, and NEPU to display a narrower set of holdings and make the
selection of potential lenders a little easier.
MMLA A&B (MLNC/Missouri Lending
Agreement)
MMLA is a resource sharing agreement available to Missouri libraries
in two parts. Libraries that sign Part A agree not to charge for the
lending of library materials. Libraries that sign Part B agree to
provide up to 30 pages of no-charge photocopying to each other.
You do not need to use OCLC ILL in order to be a member of this
agreement.
MIGI (Missouri Interlibrary Group
Initiative - pronounced "My Guy")
MIGI is a resource sharing group made up of MLNC member libraries in
Missouri and a few in Illinois and Kansas (near the metro areas of St.
Louis and Kansas City). MIGI also contains the union list holdings
of the former Missouri Union List of Serial Publications. The
group was
originally formed to allow libraries who did not catalog with OCLC a way to use
OCLC Interlibrary Loan. MLNC member libraries who use the OCLC Interlibrary Loan
service are automatically members of this group. LVIS
(Libraries Very Interested in Sharing,
pronounced "Elvis")
LVIS is an OCLC resource sharing group whose members agree to lend and
photocopy materials at no charge to other LVIS members. LVIS, which was established in 1993, began
out of a shared goal between MLNC and the Illinois State Library to
encourage and provide greater opportunities for resource sharing
throughout the Midwest region. With the nationwide expansion of LVIS,
multi-type libraries from all over the country have joined to take
advantage of no charge resource sharing.
NEPU is the ILL Group symbol for the National Newspaper
Project. Don’t let the name fool you though, the group has holdings for
all kinds of serials, not just newspapers.
